Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Local Media Tools (https://local-media-tools.com) collects, uses, and protects information when you use our browser-based media processing tools.
1. File Processing
All media processing on Local Media Tools is performed entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly (FFmpeg.wasm). Your files are never uploaded to our servers. They never leave your device. We have no access to your media content — it stays 100% private on your machine from start to finish.
2. Information We Collect
We collect anonymous, aggregated usage data to understand how the service is used and to improve it. This includes:
- Pages visited and time spent on each page
- Browser type, operating system, and device category
- General geographic region (country/city level, not precise location)
- Referral source (how you arrived at the site)
We do not collect:
- Your media files or any content you process
- Your name, email address, or any personally identifiable information (PII)
- IP addresses (anonymized before storage)
3. Cookies & Tracking
We use cookies in three categories. You can manage your preferences via the cookie consent banner or your browser settings.
- Essential cookies: Required for core site functionality (e.g., remembering your cookie consent choice).
- Analytics cookies: Used by Google Analytics 4 to collect anonymous usage statistics. Only set if you have granted analytics consent.
- Advertising cookies: Used by Google AdSense to serve relevant advertisements. Only set if you have granted advertising consent.
4. Google Analytics 4
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) with the following privacy settings:
- Consent Mode v2: Analytics data is only collected after you grant consent. Before consent, no measurement data is sent to Google.
- IP anonymization: IP addresses are anonymized before any data is stored by Google.
- No advertising features: We do not use GA4 for remarketing or advertising personalization.
- Data retention: GA4 event data is retained for 14 months.
You can opt out of Google Analytics by adjusting your cookie preferences on this site or by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
5. Google AdSense
We display advertisements served by Google AdSense. AdSense uses cookies and device identifiers to serve ads that may be relevant to your interests. This involves:
- Third-party advertising cookies set by Google and its partners
- Interest-based ad targeting based on your browsing activity across sites
- Frequency capping to limit how often you see the same ad
AdSense cookies are only set after you grant advertising consent. You can opt out of personalized ads via Google Ad Settings or the NAI opt-out page.
6. Local Storage & IndexedDB
Local Media Tools stores certain data locally on your device — it is never transmitted to our servers:
- Workspace (IndexedDB): Recently processed files are temporarily cached in your browser's IndexedDB to enable the workspace feature. This data stays on your device and is cleared when you clear your browser data.
- Preferences (localStorage): Your cookie consent choice and any tool settings are saved in localStorage so they persist between visits.
You can clear all locally stored data at any time through your browser's “Clear site data” or “Clear browsing data” settings.
7. Personal Data
Local Media Tools does not have user accounts, registration, or login. We do not collect, store, or process any personally identifiable information (PII) such as names, email addresses, phone numbers, or payment details. No personal data is shared with third parties beyond what Google Analytics and Google AdSense require to function (as described above).
8. Your Rights
You have the following controls over your data:
- Cookie consent: Use the cookie banner on this site to grant or withdraw consent for analytics and advertising cookies at any time.
- Browser data: Clear all site data (localStorage, IndexedDB, cookies) via your browser's settings.
- Analytics opt-out: Install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or use a tracking blocker.
- Ad personalization opt-out: Manage your ad preferences via Google Ad Settings or the NAI opt-out page.
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA) or another jurisdiction with data protection laws, you may have additional rights under applicable law. Contact us (see Section 11) if you wish to exercise these rights.
9. Children's Privacy
Local Media Tools is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through this site, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the bottom of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
